Colebrook Bosson Saunders' Director on expedition to
Everest to raise funds for British Heart Foundation
On
29th February Martin Colenutt, Commercial Director of Colebrook
Bosson Saunders, sets off from Heathrow - destination Kathmandu
and ultimately Everest - the highest point on the planet.
This
is the start of an expedition to Everest Base camp organised by the British
Heart Foundation to raise funds for the charity. There are 25 people on the expedition plus 2
mountain leaders and a doctor. Each
participant must raise at least £3,100 for the charity and most will raise significantly
in excess of this figure. Although
Martin has many generous sponsors, CBS have stepped up to the mark to be
Martin's main sponsor.
Martin's
association with British Heart Foundation began with the London to Brighton Cycle ride and lead on to
BHF inviting Martin to run the London Marathon.
After
spending a day in Kathmandu, a light aircraft takes
the group to Lukla (2860 metres). It is
here that the 14 days of Trekking begins. The two targets are Everest Base Camp and Kala
Pattar (5623 metres or 18,192 feet). The
summit of Kala Pattar is widely acknowledged as one of the best places to view
Everest from.
The
group will be walking for up to 8 hours per day through a wide variety of
terrain. It will be mild to start with, but as the group ascends, night time
temperatures may fall as low as minus 20 degrees c and it will be about minus 5
degrees in the tents.
