Night Photography Kurio with Gareth Gardner
Colebrook Bosson Saunders had the pleasure of hosting some wonderful A&D guests attending our night time photography workshop Thursday evening – led by the talented Gareth Gardner (Instagram: @gardnergareth)
Night time photography can be an exciting challenge
Switching to manual mode and adjusting your aperture, ISO and Shutter speed for the first time can be daunting, but necessary to get the type of shot you’re after. Experimenting with exposure time led to some fantastic streaks of light from both London buses, cabs and the odd Uber.
The group didn’t let the rain deter them
A few rain drops on the lenses of the cameras made some interesting effects, bouncing light towards the sensor in interesting ways. Gareth also passed on some interesting insider tips regarding the use of filters, as some (cheaper filters) like rain drops can have a not so desired effect, creating strange shapes and blotches on the image.
The result
Gareth went over some photography basics, teaching our guests how to best use the manual functionality on their cameras, DLSR’s, Mirror-less and even phone cameras have amazing capabilities regarding manual control, pushing them to capture light in interesting ways. After an hours walk through borough, towards the river, our guests came back to our showroom in Union Street to present what they had captured. Check out 5 amazing shots picked out by Gareth from the nights workshop below:
Of course all of the shots taken Thursday night were brilliant, and we hope that our guests enjoyed themselves and learned something new, please check out the rest of them here:
