The Hidden Challenges of Hybrid Work: What 233 Professionals Told Us About Their Laptop Struggles

The laptop has become the lifeline of modern work. But as work itself transforms (with 58.5% of professionals becoming more mobile since the pandemic), are we truly equipped to handle the challenges that come with this shift?

We surveyed 233 professionals across industries to understand how they're really working today, what's frustrating them, and what they need to succeed. The results reveal a workforce that's more mobile, more connected, and more challenged than ever before.

Laptops Are Universal, But Support Isn't

Here's a striking statistic: 88% of respondents use a laptop for work. It's not just a tool anymore; it's the foundation of how we get things done. From emails (95% of users) to video calls (86.5%) to extended focus work (71.5%), laptops power every aspect of the modern workday.

But here's what most organizations miss: as laptops become more critical, the environment around them has become more complex.

The Hybrid Reality: Work Happens Everywhere Now

Nearly half (46%) of professionals describe their work style as hybrid, with another 14% mostly mobile. The traditional fixed desk worker? That's only 33% of today's workforce.

Since the pandemic, the shift has been dramatic. Our data shows professionals now work from:

  • Home desks (71.5%)
  • Office desks (71.5%)
  • Co-working spaces (28%)
  • Cafes (20%)
  • Transit (14.5%)

This mobility comes with a hidden cost.

The Top Three Challenges Nobody's Talking About

When we asked professionals about their biggest frustrations in mobile or hybrid settings, three themes dominated:

1. Connectivity Chaos

Wi-Fi dropouts during important calls. Battery anxiety. Devices that won't connect to different networks or displays. These aren't minor inconveniences—they're productivity killers that happen daily.

2. Communication Breakdown

When your team is scattered across locations, staying aligned becomes exponentially harder. Add in unreliable technology, and miscommunication becomes the norm rather than the exception.

3. The Ergonomics Problem

Small laptop screens. Poor posture from working on couches or cafe tables. Neck strain from video calls without proper equipment. The physical toll of mobile work is real, and it's affecting performance.

Workers Are Adapting - But They Need Better Support

The good news? Professionals are investing in solutions. Our research found that 61% use headphones, 51% have webcams, 47.5% use external mice, and 44.5% have laptop stands.

They're trying to solve these problems themselves. But piecemeal solutions aren't enough when the underlying technology support isn't there.

What This Means for Organizations

If 88% of your workforce depends on laptops, and nearly 60% are working in mobile or hybrid configurations, laptop support can't be an afterthought. It needs to be:

  • Proactive, not reactive - addressing connectivity and compatibility issues before they disrupt work
  • Mobile-friendly - supporting users wherever they work, not just at a fixed desk
  • Comprehensive - covering hardware, software, connectivity, and ergonomics

The data is clear: the way we work has fundamentally changed. The question is whether our support systems have changed with it.
